Title: Online vs. on-campus learning?

There has been a proliferation of online engineering degree programs  (http://www.engineeringdaily.net/2009/09/an-introductory-guide-to-online-engineering-degrees-programs)in the last decade or so. As the concept catches on, the question still lingers – whether an online program is better or an on-campus program is better.
While online learning certainly provides a viable cheap alternative to traditional learning, what are the long term benefits in comparison to in-class learning.
More importantly, which degree program provides you with better job prospects?

Learning on campus is a better educational experience. You need to be around your professors and other students. You need to attend group study sessions, office hours, student activities, and labs. Don't cheat yourself of all that - at least for your undergraduate degree.

I certainly agree with you that at least for the BS, an on-campus degree provides you with much-needed interaction with students and professors.
But what about other advanced degrees?
My thinking is, an online degree provides you with a way to focus on your career while still getting and education.
From a long-term percepective I think such an approach will do more for your career as opposed to focusing entirely on getting an advanced degree.
The question then becomes, what are the job prospects for those with an online engineering degree?
