This is indeed a challenge facing civil engineering firms because we are slow to adapt to new technologies that are certainly here to stay. I once had a much older boss ridicule me on my persistent requests for the company to engage in social-media type of interactions. His reaction was expected given his harsh stance on what he termed as “silly use of company time. ”  According to him, social media was a fad and even went on to compare social media to the 7-minute-abs-type technologies. 
My view on social media is that, while still young and untested I believe it still provides numerous opportunities for interacting with your audience/customers. If the traditional ways of interacting with customers are indeed shattering then social media appears well-poised to take over.  The question now becomes, how do you properly harness social-media for improved brand recognition and bettering your brand?
